🌍 Impact Partners Wanted

Join a globally recognised research–practice partnership, led by Dr Paul Flaxman (City, University of London & St George’s) and Ross McIntosh, advancing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the workplace. We’re seeking new impact partners to help extend the real-world reach of our work — from the NHS to global businesses.

Help us extend the reach and real-world benefits of ACT to staff in the workplace

In my research – practitioner partnership with Dr Paul Flaxman, we’re dedicated to bringing evidence-based psychological skills into everyday working life — helping people cultivate a sense of fulfilment, meaningful action, and positive well-being in the face of modern work challenges.

Our mission is simple: to make a difference where it matters most — in the places people spend much of their lives, their workplaces.

For over a decade, Dr Paul Flaxman (City St George’s, University of London) and I have worked in partnership to bridge the gap between research and practice in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for staff groups.

One of the primary advantages of using ACT in the design of workplace interventions is that it can be integrated with existing approaches or combined with other research-based initiatives to respond to organisational challenges. I have designed interventions to build psychological safety, prepare an organisation for change, enhance accountability, foster a growth mindset and also delivered bite-sized workshops based on ACT.

Together, we’ve designed and delivered ACT-based programmes that have improved staff well-being across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • 22 NHS Trusts
  • UK Civil Service (HM Treasury, Ministry of Justice)
  • Teachers and education settings
  • Healthcare professionals (Northern New South Wales)
  • Diageo and other FMCG organisations
  • UK ballet companies – Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, The Royal Ballet, Rambert
  • Charities – Shoreditch Trust, 16–25 Independent People
  • Engineers in High Performance team
  • A Big Four consultancy
  • A global technology organisation

In 2021, our work was recognised in an Impact Case Study submitted to the UK’s Research Evaluation Framework (REF), which was judged to have outstanding reach and significance.

We’re now seeking new Impact Partners as we prepare for the next REF submission in 2029 — organisations and practitioners who share our commitment to improving psychological health and well-being in the workplace.

💡 Three ways to partner with us

1. You’re already delivering an ACT based programme in your organisation

If you’ve trained with us and are delivering ACT-based programmes, we’d love to hear from you. We know that people are adapting the programme to suit their context and would love to hear more.
We’re gathering data and stories of real-world impact — and would welcome a short letter describing the staff groups that have had access to an ACT programme, and the scope and scale of any benefits you’ve seen.

2. You’d like to co-design an in-house ACT programme

If you already have some ACT experience, we can help you design and implement a tailored programme for your organisation.
We’ll support you with design expertise, delivery guidance, and research input to measure and evidence impact effectively.
(This is a fee-based collaboration.)

3. You’d like us to design, deliver, and research an ACT intervention for you

We’ll work with you to understand your context and create a bespoke, evidence-based intervention — delivered by us, evaluated through the use of measures, and potentially extended through training your own facilitators.
(This is also a fee-based partnership.)
